چکیده
Abstract Introduction We determined the association between frailty and 30-day mortality following total hip knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA) due to osteoarthritis also impact of THA/TKA on compared a control population. Method used linked primary secondary care data Office for National Statistics data. Frailty was assessed using electronic index categorised as fit, mild, moderate, severe frailty. The Cox regression, adjusted year birth, sex, quintile multiple deprivation surgery. Mortality population who had but no previous THA/TKA, matched deprivation. Results 103,563 cases THA, 125,367 TKA, controls contributed Among those surgery, increased with increasing frailty; hazard ratio (HR) (95% CI) among severely frail vs fit: 2.85 (1.84, 4.39); 2.14 (1.29, 3.53). Compared fit did not have higher people THA respectively, HR 1.60 (1.15, 2.21) 2.98 (1.81, 4.89). There was, however, statistically significant difference in moderate same category. Conclusion A healthy surgery (selection) effect may impacted comparison

Impact of Obesity on Complications following Primary Hip Joint Arthroplasty Surgery for Osteoarthritis
Objective: To describe the most common forms of hip replacement complications that can prevail postoperatively and how obesity can impact the extent and severity of these complications. Methods: Relevant literature and research evidence concerning complications that occur after primary joint hip arthroplasty or joint replacement surgery, plus those that discussed issues of obesity in this conte...
متن کاملAnkylosis due to heterotopic ossification following primary total knee arthroplasty.
We present a case of ankylosis of the knee after knee arthroplasty due to heterotopic ossification in the ligaments. Treatment with resection of the collateral ligaments, reconstruction with a hinged implant and radiotherapy was successful.
متن کاملReduced medium-term mortality following primary total hip and knee arthroplasty with an enhanced recovery program
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Our unit started to use routine multimodal techniques to enhance recovery for hip and knee arthroplasty in 2008. We have previously reported earlier discharge, a trend toward a reduction in complications, and a statistically significant reduction in mortality up to 90 days after surgery. In this study, we evaluated the same cohort to determine whether survival benefits we...
متن کاملPatient Satisfaction Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Comparison of Short-Term Results in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis
Background: Due to the obvious differences in the natural course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA),different functional outcomes might be expected after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in these distinct patients. Althoughseveral studies have reported the objective outcome of TKA in RA and OA patients, few studies have compared postoperativepatient-satisfaction levels. Methods: I...
متن کاملIncreasing incidence of hip arthroplasty for primary osteoarthritis in 30- to 59-year-old patients
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The use of hip arthroplasties is evidently increasing, but there are few published data on the incidence in young patients. METHODS We used data on total and resurfacing hip arthroplasties (THAs and RHAs) from the Finnish Arthroplasty Register and population data from Statistics Finland to analyze the incidences of THA and RHA in patients aged 30-59 years in Finland, fo...
